The Drowned Archive gives up its dead

Four hours underwater and the party surfaced with more than they bargained for: a reliquary shard, a debt to the Ferryman, and the name of the woman who drowned the stacks on purpose.

The descent began where Session 2 ended — the collapsed crypt at the reliquary’s mouth, still smoking. What waited below was not a dungeon but a library, shelved floor to ceiling with the waterlogged records of a court nobody at the table had heard named before Lady Vex.

It was Seraphine Vael who read the sovereign’s ledger by lantern-light while the water rose, and Brannick Thorn who held the door — “I stood where the dark pressed hardest,” his player said afterward, a line the table has already made a toast.

What the ledger said is not printed here. Two players know. The GM knows they know. The Gazette prints what the table lived, and only what every reader at the table may see — the same projection law that keeps a GM’s secrets out of a player’s page keeps them out of ink.

Next on the docket: a bargain at Lantern Rock, where the Ferryman waits with a price and the third lantern stays dark. The table meets July 24. The Gazette will be there — it always is.

The vault

A hooded stranger keeps the tavern corner

Regulars at the Gate report the same figure at the same table, night after night. Nobody has seen a face. The party has started asking questions the GM will not answer.

Seraphine Vael named Lantern-Bearer

After the crossing at the drowned stair, the half-elf wayfarer carries the light the archive could not drown. Her player has not stopped grinning since.

Missing

Magister Ollo, archivist, last seen at Lantern Rock

The reliquary’s keeper failed to return with the tide. The Ferryman, asked directly, said only: “The third lantern is not mine to light.”

How this paper keeps secrets

One route, two worlds

A GM and a player open the same page and see provably different truths — the secret bytes never leave the server. What the Gazette prints is the table’s shared world, by construction. The hidden ledger stays hidden, even from the paper.
